Tso – Bafana Go To AFCON To Add Numbers

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi believes Bafana Bafana will only head to the Africa Cup of Nations to add numbers.

The senior national team qualified for the continental showpiece in Ivory Coast next year after picking four points against Liberia in Group K over the international break.

Vilakazi believes the matches against the Lone Stars posed a lot of questions about the team, questions that according to him coach Hugo Broos does not have answers for.

The 40-year-old, who made 31 appearances for Bafana during his playing day, says it’s good and well to qualify but he is not expecting anything short of a miracle from Bafana at AFCON.

“Let them go and add numbers [at AFCON] and we will see when they come back. I’m being brutally honest. We put ourselves in unnecessary situations where there isn’t even a need,” Vilakazi said on iDiskiTV.

“What happened when we played Zimbabwe and failed to beat them here at home nearly happened again. Then we hoped for a draw against Ghana in our following game.

“We have everything in our hands and seem to just throw it away. Even against Liberia we almost threw the game away, a game we had in our hands here at home.

“And the last thing I will say is that you failed to hammer Liberia and I’m not saying this in a bad way, I hope people don’t get me wrong.

“They [Liberia] don’t have resources like us and they are not in a good state to just focus on football and to play against us and other countries and actually win.

“We could not do well against a team that’s not in a good state, so how are you are expecting to do better against those who have resources just like you, have better players and I will even say a better coach too?

“A better coach when posed with questions comes with better answers but when our coach doesn’t even see the questions that’s a problem.

“To be honest I had to pray for you guys [Bafana Bafana] to win and go to AFCON. I even said it at half-time that we were going to win 2-1.

“I’ll say these guys [players] they are unfortunate to be caught in the middle, they made sacrifices and were in camp and we don’t even know their coach’s structure since he took charge or his style of play. Well, let me speak for myself I don’t know his style of play.

“I’m sorry for the boys and well done boys. It’s done, now go to AFCON, maybe things will get better, maybe a miracle will happen and maybe the man above [God] can come and take you to the semi-final.”
