Stellenbosch FC right-back Deano Van Rooyen has made a bold claim that he deserves to be in the senior national team.
The 27 year old has been an integral part of the Stellies side and helped them win their first ever trophy, the Carling Knockout Cup in December 2023. Van Rooyen is closing in on his 150th appearance in maroon having featured 24 times in all competitions this season and yet to crack even a preliminary squad call-up.
He told IDiski Times Digital Editor David Kappel in the current edition of the newspaper, that like his peers he’d like to represent his country. That he hasn’t been called- up yet is actually inspiring him to work harder adding that he is ready anytime.
“Yeah, I think everyone wants to play for Bafana- Bafana but for me personally, I think I deserve to play for the national team,” Van Rooyen told IDiski Times.
“Obviously, I must work, but I think I’m working hard enough to get selected or maybe in the preliminary squad.
“For me, it’s just motivation to work more harder. But even though I’m not selected, I’m always happy for the guys who are selected but I’m ready whenever my chance will come.”
