Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has told his own players that he is not leaving his job amid strong rumours linking him with the Tunisia natioinal team.
On Monday, news in Tunisia claimed that Broos would be the favourite to succeed Jalal El Kadri ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.
It was stated that Broos had agreed to join the Eagles of Carthage, but still needed to end his current deal with the South African Football Association.
The lure of being closer to his family in Belgium with around a three-hour flight was one of the considerations for the coach who was approached by Tunisia in 2021 before rejecting the offer.
However, the Belgian tactician has distanced himself from the speculation after Bafana’s 3-3 draw with Algeria, telling media that it’s just rumours.
Bafana have now also released parts of a video where Broos tells his players that there is “nothing” behind talk of his exit after the reports had stated the Algeria match would be his last.
“What you’ve heard and what you’ve read, there is nothing,” he said.
“Why should I leave such a good team as you?”
