Banyana End US Tour With Back-To-Back Defeats

BanyanaBanyana will return from their tour of America with nothing but lessons after they lost 2-0 to the US in their second international friendly at Soldier Fields in Chicago on Sunday.

Trinity Rodman was once again on the score-sheet as she opened the scoring in the 18th minute, while Emily Sonnet headed a set-piece in the 49th minute.

The Americans were dominant, especially on the attacking front. Lindsey Horan tried early on in the third minute from range with her shot going over the bar. Alex Morgan, who assisted the first goal, also tested Andile Dlamini who made a return to the starting 11 since April this year.

Woman of the moment, Megan Rapinoe also had three attempts in the opening half and assisted the second goal before going off in her final match for the Stars and Stripes.

Rodman could have completed a brace at the hour mark but her shot from range was denied by the woodwork.

Captain Thembi Kgatlana could have pulled one back for the visitors in the 75th minute but the keeper made a save. The defeat is a fourth overall for the African champions against the former World Champions.

South African coach Desiree Ellis had made four changes to the side that lost 3-0 in the first friendly three days ago, starting Dlamini ahead of Kaylin Swart in goals.

Sinoxolo Cesane got her first start in green and gold in place of Gabriela Salgado who dropped to the bench. Robyn Moodaly replaced Kholosa Biyana in midfield while Wendy Shongwe started ahead of Jermaine Seoposenwe.

The USA made four changes to their starting line in goals as well Casey Murphy, Tierna Davidson, Casey Krueger and Rapinoe.
