Banyana Get COSAFA Life Line

Banyana Banyana will have it all to do in their final group match at the 2023 Hollywoodbets COSAFA Women’s Championship, if they are to stand a chance to progress to the semi-finals.

Desiree Ellis charges won 3-1 against Madagascar in their second Group A match in Dobsonville on Saturday afternoon.

Thubelihle Shamase converted a penalty in the first half while and Samkelisiwe Selana completed a brace in the second half as Banyana registered their first victory at this year’s event.

The result sees them move from the bottom of the log to second position in the group with three points from two matches same points as Eswatini behind them.

Eswatini were thrashed 8-0 by Group leaders Malawi in an earlier kick-off and will play Banyana in the final group encounter next Tuesday for a shot to make the knout stage as the best runner-up.

The top three sides in all the groups and the best runner- up from all the groups will advance to the semi-finals. Banyana came into the competition with player availability challenges with some players arriving on the morning of the first match that they lost 4-3.
