The matches are part of Banyana’s preparations for the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and they follow the recent friendly defeats to Denmark (0-5) and England (1-2) that the team participated in last month.
Coach Ellis, who was inducted in South Africa’s Hall of Fame on Wenesday, has emphasised from the start of her preparations that it’s important for the African champions to play tougher opponents ahead of the African spectacle next year. Jamaica are ranked 37th in the world while Banyana are 45th.
Jessica Williams got her first senior call-up after impressing at the COSAFA Women’s Championship, where the goalkeeper even scored a screamer as the team finished in second place.
While Nomvula Kgoale returns, there were some big-name absentees, with Tembi Kgatlana and Jermaine Seoposenwe as well as Noko Matlou missing out. Bambanani Mbane was not available due to injury.
