Banyana Banyana have concluded their tour of Senegal with a 2-0 win over the hosts nation in their second international friendly at Stade Lat Dior on Tuesday evening.
The African champions came into this game having succumbed to a 1-1 draw against Senegal in the first friendly this past weekend, with coach Dr Desiree Ellis making four changes from that game.
Sinoxolo Cesane, Linda Mothlalo, Tiisetso Makhubela and Sibulele Holweni dropped to the bench and were replaced with Kholosa Biyana, Nicole Michael, Lonathemba Mhlongo and Amanda Mthandi.
The visitors showed intention to score as early as the second minute with that attempt going over the bar. There was a clear shot from Noxolo Cesane 12 minutes later but it was ruled offside. Banyana made up for that when they won a set-piece in the 13th minute, Amogelang Motau stepped up and slotted the ball under the Senegalese goalkeeper’s body to break the deadlock.
There was threat from the Teranga Lionesses in the 26th minute however Kaylin Swart came out to deny them an equaliser.
With the hosts pressing for an equaliser Banyana gave away a free-kick in the 37th minute and Swart did well to punch the ball away to keep Banyana in the lead. Banyana were on the score sheet again a minute before the break after Mthandi set up Cesane who scored their second goal.
In the second half Dr Ellis made two changes introducing Motlhalo for Biyana and Holweni for Motau. It took 12 minutes for Banyana to create their first real threat in the stanza. A good build up from Motlhalo to captain Ramalepe ending on Majiya’s boot amounted to nothing as the Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies forward, missed the target.
A dangerous foul on Kaylin Swart by Sow Coumba saw her sent to the showers early, leaving her side with only 10 women for the remaining 20 minutes of the match. Swart was eventually subbed with Katlego Moletsane. The Royal AM Ladies keeper maintained the clean sheet as the match ended 2-0 in favour of South Africa. Â
