Banyana Banyana head coach Dr Desiree Ellis has named her 30-woman squad to take on neighbours Lesotho in two international friendly matches later this month.
South Africa have been inactive since playing Jamaica in two consecutive friendly internationals in early December last year, going down 3-0 and 3-2 respectively, and will now face Mehalalitoe at Lucas Moripe Stadium on 22 and 25 February 2025.
One of the biggest and notable inclusions in Ellis’ squad is goalkeeper Jessica Williams of Badgers FC in Cape Town who made a name for herself at the 2024 COSAFA Cup after scoring a long-range freekick against Eswatini and scooped the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award.

Ellis emphasized the need to widen the pool in order to get fresh faces as they look to defend their Women’s African Cup of Nations title which will be staged in Morocco between 5 – 26 July 2025.
“We are always watching players and have been impressed with the group we have called in for these two matches. As you see some are from the COSAFA Championships played last year, some are currently part of the U17 National Team and will have an opportunity to learn from the senior team while they prepare for their World Cup qualifiers,” Dr Ellis told safa.net.

“We want to see what the following players will bring to the team. We want them to showcase themselves and fight for a spot in the senior team,” she continued.
