Banyana- Banyana head coach Dr Desiree Ellis has trimmed down her Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) preliminarily squad on Sunday with Thembi Kgatlana a notable absentee from the team.
A statement following the 28 women squad by the South African Football Association (SAFA) said the Tigress Femenil striker will also not be considered for the final team to travel to Morocco because of personal reasons.
The African champions have been drawn in Group B with Ghana, Mali and Tanzania at the event starting from 5-26 July. Ellis has selected 21 South African based players in the team. Meanwhile the statement from the FA also said 24 of the named players will assemble for the final preparatory camp in Johannesburg on 19 June who will be joined by four overseas based players at a later stage while striker Hilda Magaia is also still undergoing medical assessments.
