Banyana Banyana defender Bambanani Mbane has urged her teammates to maintain the same mentality they had in their opening game of the 2024 WAFCON to improve in the tournament.
Mbane was named Player of the Match after South Africa defeated Ghana 2-0 in the Group C opener in Morocco on Monday where she felt the team had a good attitude.
The experienced Banyana defender wants her teammates to forget about the history between the sides and treat the encounter as a new game but with mentality from the opener if they are to be successful.
“We knew how important this game [against Ghana] was going to be and we knew that every team that will play against us will want to win,” Mbane told Safa.net.
“For us we had to win the first game, then we have the second one coming up now we are looking forward to seeing how that game will end.
“We go into this game with the same mentality like in the first game because Tanzania has lost their first game, they will want to prove that they are a team that can do better.
“So, we also have to have mentality from our first game and not change. This is a new game and this is a tournament anything is possible. We are not talking about the past, we are talking about now and we don’t know how they’d have prepared this time.”
The defending champions are gearing to face the Eastern African side on Friday looking to solidify progression to the knockout phase this coming Friday.
