Another Player Re-signs With Swallows

Moroka Swallows midfielder Lantshane Phalane has re-signed with the Dube Birds to continue with the club in the second half of the season.

Phalane’s future with Swallows was in the dark, as he was among the players found guilty by the club’s DC for not honoring the two matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows in December.

Phalane, according to the source, was told by his legal team that he shouldn’t engage the South African Football Players’ Union.

Instead, his legal team has fought the matter, and it was concluded that the player has followed Gregory Damons and Gabadinho Mhango to re-sign a revised deal.

It is not clear whether the new revised deal is less than what he was paid in his original contract.

“Phalane has re-signed with Swallows,” the player’s agent Mike Makaab broke the story on Gagasi FM on Friday before telling the iDiski Times after the show.

Phalane, along with 22 players, were in this position after they demanded their salaries to be paid before Christmas Day.

Swallows chairman David Mogashoa told iDiski Times that, as per all the players’ contracts, all knew that they were going to be paid at the end of every month and therefore there was no way he was going to change that, even though the PSL paid all clubs the grant money on the 15 December.

Mogashoa also said he had to consider the players did not train for 10 days before their game against SuperSport United on 15 December.

That was the last time Swallows played in the league. In those two matches against Sundowns and Arrows – the points were forfeited, given as a walkover of three points to these two teams and 3-0 victories.

Swallows was subsequently fined R1 million by PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu, but they were asked to pay only R400,000, while R600,000 was suspended for two years on condition they were not found in the same position during that period.

The league also considered relegating them, but opted against it because Swallows pleaded guilty to having brought the league and sponsors into disrepute.

Lantshane joined Swallows at the beginning of the season after leaving Royal AM at the end of last term.
