Are Chiefs Title Contenders? Junior Gives His Verdict

iDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye has given his verdict on whether Kaizer Chiefs are one of the title contenders this season.

Khanye’s comments come after Amakhosi’s 1-0 win over Marumo Gallants in the league on Wednesday, a result that saw them shoot up to second place on the log with 30 points but are now third after Orlando Pirates’ win.

The former South African junior international believes the race is between the Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates and emphasises that it will go to Chloorkop again.

“I can’t count Kaizer Chiefs there because there’s still a lot of work to be done,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“There is a saying that goes the way you win now determines your future. I’ll even repeat it, when you win because of luck, yes, they scored the goal, they won that match, they got three points, but I don’t think they can repeat it next week. [Glody] Lilepo won’t repeat that, even the other week he won’t do that. Orlando Pirates is one of the best attacking teams currently.

“Sundowns they’ve got seasoned players who have been winning leagues several times. So, you can be assured that one of those two teams, that it’s between those two teams and Kaizer Chiefs you can’t count them there. We are talking about national team players at Pirates and Sundowns, international players, they play for the national team.

“And how many national team players at Kaizer Chiefs, it’s going to be difficult because even number two will come from either Pirates or Sundowns. I believe Sundowns will win it again this year because of their experience and not because they are the best this season.

“Pirates are the best team, but inexperienced Kaizer Chiefs will be in the top five.”
