Arrows And Chippa Show Interest In Pirates Defender

Orlando Pirates defender Sandile Mthethwa is wanted by Golden Arrows and Chippa United on loan as both clubs are tussling for his signature, iDiski Times has learnt.

Mthethwa, now 25 years old, has not started an official match for Pirates since he was signed from KZN Academy six years ago.

Pirates have loaned him to Richards Bay twice, Chippa four times, including two in the past two seasons to the Eastern Cape club.

However, Pirates kept him this season after the departure of the long-serving defender and captain Happy Jele at the end of last season.

But still he has struggled to play with coach Jose Riveiro going with three at the back such as captain Innocent Maela, Olisa Ndah and Nkosinathi Sibisi, who arrived from Arrows during the offseason.

Pirates also signed Thapelo Xoki from AmaZulu during the off-season, making it hard for Mthethwa to get a look-in in the side.

However, Mthethwa, despite not having officially played for Pirates, looked composed in the Carling Black Label last month, featuring in both matches against Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively.

It will be interesting to see where Mthethwa will decide to go as Pirates have close ties with Chippa and Arrows respectively.

But Arrows are the ones more desperate as Sibisi was never replaced at the beginning of the season, raising the stress level super high for the Durban-based side.

They lost the first two matches of the season to prop the foot of the table, but they have since picked their way up now. Abafana Bes’Thende have signed Scelokuhle Hlatshwayo from Marumo Gallants.

Chippa has also improved too since the departure of Daine Klate in September and replaced him with Morgan Mammila. The Eastern Cape based club is in the top six at the moment with 18 points after 13 matches, just two points ahead of eight-placed Arrows.
