Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker believes that Devin Titus is head and shoulders above his peers who are in contention for the Young Player of the Season.
Titus was once again on the scoresheet when Stellies hammered SuperSport United 4-0 in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal at Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday.
The Cape Winelands side reached their fourth consecutive cup semifinal in the space of a year. Titus has been in excellent form as he scored his third goal in the Nedbank Cup and 11 in all competitions. He has also provided three assists
Barker applauded Titus and mentioned that the 22-year-old “is” the conversation when it comes to the Young Player Of the Season and looking at the stats no under-23 player comes closer to him in the league.
“I don’t want to sound sort of, but I think right now, he’s hands down, should be leading, it’s not that he should be joining the conversation.” Barker told iDiskiTimes
“I think he is in the conversation of his own right now, the number of goals, the number of assists, and the number of minutes that he played, his effectiveness.
“I just believe now there’s only one contender.”
