Barker Confirms Two New Stellies Signings

Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker has confirmed the signings of U20 AFCON winner Siviwe Nkwali and MFC top goalscorer Muzomuhle Khanyi.

The Cape Winelands outfit qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup for the second successive season after playing a goalless draw against Cape Town City while Sekhukhune United suffering a 3-2 defeat to Golden Arrows.

This season, Stellies competed in five competitions which needed a bigger squad as Barker’s side reached the MTN8 final, Nedbank Cup quarterfinals and the CAF Confed Cup semi-final.

Having the experience now, Barker confirmed that they already looking to beef up the squad, confirming the signing of defender Nkwali from Cape Town Spurs who recently won the U20 AFCON hosted in Egypt as well as Khanyi who finished as the top goalscorer in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with 18 goals for Hungry Lions.

“We are a team that is proactive you may have seen in the news recently, we signed, it was done in January already [Siviwe] Nkwali from Cape Town Spurs and Muzi [Muziwomuhle Khanyi] from Hungry Lions. We are in the market to beef up where we feel we need to,” Barker told the media.

“So, we are definitely really been active behind the scenes sometimes these things take a little a bit of time one or two things before it happens you can make one or two your final decisions.”
