Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker admits that influential attacker Jayden Adams is dejected after latest Bafana Bafana snub and being suspended in the Betway Premiership.
It’s been a tough few weeks for Adams after he was released from the Bafana Bafana camp last month following what was described as bad behaviour by Hugo Broos before the back-to-back matches against Congo Brazzaville.
Since then, the 23-year-old has been in and out of the Stellies squad after recently being shown a red card gainst Richards Bay in the Carling Knockout Cup.
Against TS Galaxy in a 1-1 draw, Adams came off the bench in the 53rd minute and received a yellow card in the 86th minute for what was his fourth yellow card of the campaign meaning he is now on suspension.
Barker stated that the Bafana incident affected Adams and the bookings made things even more difficult for the talented midfielder but mentioned that the FIFA international week came at the right time.
“Jayden is going through a little bit of a difficult patch right now,” Barker told the media.
“I think the setback of not being selected for the Bafana Bafana squad, the two yellow cards that he picked up. The red card, he was on three yellows he got one he is now gonna miss the next game and starts on a zero hopefully we can get him to his best.

“It has been easy because I found that we haven’t been able to train a lot and when you are suspended like he was and you travel away you become a little bit detached from the team, training on your own and training with the Diski team.
“So, I think this break gives us an opportunity to all regroup, get Jayden back to training, and play to his best ability as I said it is what it is he gonna miss the next game.”
