Stellenbosch FC defender Fawaaz Basadien admits it wasn’t hard to stay focused at the task at hand despite reports heavily linking him to Kaizer Chiefs.
Basadien has been an integral part of Steve Barker’s side since joining them in 2022. His consistent good performances have helped them secure the Carling Knockout Cup two seasons ago and to a third-place finish in the league last campaign where they qualified for this season’s CAF Confed Cup.

The 28-year-old was also part of the Bafana Bafana squad that qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup Of Nations, all of this leading to reported interest by Amakhosi in the last transfer window.
Basadien explained to iDiski Times editor Rob Delport in the latest edition of the newspaper how being professional and generally a stand-up guy made it easy for him.
“You need to honour and value your contract and that is why it was easy for me to still perform,” Basadien told iDiski Times.
“I try to give my best every time I get to play and not worry too much about things that are outside of my control.
“It will obviously be nice to advance your career and to put yourself in a better financial situation.”
