Baxter Explains Mabiliso’s Lack Of Game-Time

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has explained why Sibusiso Mabiliso who made his starting XI debut for Amakhosi in the last Soweto Derby has only played four minutes since.

The 22-year-old joined Amakhosi from AmaZulu ahead of the 2021/22 campaign but has struggled to secure a starting berth in Baxter’s line-up so far.

In fact, his only start came in the reverse fixture of Saturday’s Soweto Derby with Baxter insisting the left-back still has some improvements to do before he can get a run of games.

“We can probably go through every position in the team and say there’s a case for someone else getting a run,” he told reporters.

“Now, ‘Maba’ has been working hard and has shown a great attitude. I think he’s got a lot of the basics of our way of playing – he’s got that come.

“Maba has worked really, really hard and he’s a great lad and a great professional. So we just think he’s got a few basics to tighten down before we throw him in and give him that run that you are sort of alluding to – that when is he going to get that run of four or five games to establish himself.

“I would say if he keeps going the way he is then that is just a question of time, not a question of whether it’s ever going to come because of X,Y, Z.

“I think he is doing a great job, and he’s a great squad player. We are happy to have him around.”

Chiefs will take on Pirates at the Orlando Stadium at 15:30 on Saturday.
