Bay Chair Thrilled At New Signing

Richards Bay chairman Sifiso Biyela is excited about the signing of midfielder Lucky Mohomi.

Mohomi, 32, has been signed by Bay alongside his teammates from Marumo Gallants – Letsie Koapeng.

On top of these signings, Bay has also signed Thato Mohlamme, Justice Figareido, Thobani Mthembu, Nkululeko Miya and Bandile Ndlovu, to strengthen the squad ahead of next season.

Mohomi, who had tricky stays with Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United, respectively, was at his best last season for Gallants, as they reached the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final.

He featured in 29 matches in all competitions in his sole season with Gallants, rolling back the years and showing his form from Free State Stars that led to Sundowns coming knocking for his signature.

The midfielder will come in as the replacement of Siphamandla Mtolo, who sadly passed away in March, leaving a gaping hole in the midfield.

Chairman Biyela said Mtolo’s passing was a huge blow as he was the unsung hero of the team, comparing him with Swallows’ Tlakusani Mthethwa and Makhehleni Makhaula of AmaZulu then.

Mohomi, from set-plays, can also deliver as he did with Gallants against Sekhukhune United at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in February. Interestingly, Koapeng also scored on that day as the Limpopo side won 2-0.

“Good player,” said Biyela to iDiski Times in short.

“Good player and he can read the game well, also I like his attitude.”

Bay, who collapsed in the second half of the season, winning just one game unlike the seven in the first round, will start their pre-season on Monday next week. By then, the club are expected to have decided about who will be the coach for next season.
