Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder has recalled the day he made his debut for the Amakhosi, revealing what then coach Ernst Middendorp told him before the match.
Blom, 23, came through the club’s youth ranks but completed a transfer to Major League Soccer side St. Louis City on 23 December.
The midfielder had spent four-and-a-half seasons with Chiefs’ first team, making 94 appearances since his debut against Golden Arrows on 1 October 2019.
He now recalled he got his first call-up fir the senior team from Ernst Middendorp.
“In February 2019, we were playing AFCON Under-20 in Niger,” he told Chiefs’ media team.
“After the first game against the hosts, when I got back to my room there was a message that coach Ernst (Middendorp) wanted me to join the first team when I came back.”
Blom further discussed his debut against Arrows, where he played right-back for 81 minutes in a 2-0 win.
“It was against Golden Arrows. I had a great game that day because the big guys (at Chiefs) showed me support and love,” he added.
“They welcomed me very well and the coach also made things easier for me by telling me to relax and not be afraid to make mistakes because, obviously, it was my first game.
“The supporters and the team would allow me that in my first match.”
