South Africa president Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed that fans will be allowed back in football stadiums.
As reported by iDiski Times journalist Velile Mnyandu, the government has reviewed their guidelines on attending social gatherings and sporting events.
Ramaphosa announced new regulations will take place from Wednesday, 23 March, lifting many restrictions on social gatherings, including the attendance of football matches at local stadiums up to 50% capacity.
“The approach going forward is that both indoor and outdoor venues can now take up to 50% of their capacity provided that the criteria for entrance are proof of vaccination or a COVID test not older than 72 hours,” the president confirmed on Tuesday.
It is now up the Premier Soccer League to confirm how the return of fans into South African stadiums will be rolled out, after initial tests during Bafana Bafana games as well as last year’s MTN8 final.
Fans have not been allowed to watch Premier Soccer League games live in the stands since March, when South Africa was hit by the first wave of COVID-19.
