Broos Gives Verdict On Nabi After Meeting Chiefs Coach

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has given his verdict on new Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi, revealing he has met the Tunisian mentor.

Broos announced his final 23-man Bafana squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan.

He has called just one Chiefs player into his squad in Rushwin Dortley, but revealed that he actually lives in the same building as new Amakhosi coach Nabi and rates him very highly.

“When I came back from Belgium, I didn’t know, but he is living in the same building that I live in. And someone of Kaizer Chiefs came to me, and I said, ‘Coach, the coach [Nabi], wants to speak you,” he told journalists.

“And I was sitting there drinking a coffee, so I spoke with him. And yeah, he’s a very good coach. I think you when you see what’s happening at Chiefs, it’s a different thing – his thinking is like, if I can say that of a European – he wants what he wants.

“And it may be a little bit easier for him to achieve that in Chiefs, because it’s not easy to be a coach of Chiefs, and I think it’s not so easy for a South African coach to slam on the table and say, ‘No, I want that’. And you see with him, it’s like that.

“And I think and I hope, also, because I said in the in the past already, it’s not normal that a team like Chiefs is seventh or eighth in the competition. It’s not good for South African football.

“So, I hope that Chiefs is again there next season, and that they will fight with [Mamelodi] Sundowns, with [Orlando] Pirates, maybe with SuperSport [United] or Stellenbosch, that they will be… maybe we’ll have five or six teams fight for the for the title, for the championship.

“It is a big progression that happens for South African football, and not the domination of one team like we had in the last five years.”
