Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has confirmed a huge blow on Bafana Bafana defender Mothobi Mvala.
Since the second round of the previous season, Mvala has struggled with injury, repeatedly returning to the pitch only to be sidelined again.
Last Wednesday, he featured for 22 minutes against Golden Arrows in the Betway Premiership.
Cardoso has revealed an incident occurred during that match, leading to the decision that the defender requires surgery.
“Unfortunately, we lost Mothobi, he will be submitted to the surgery,” said Cardoso.
“We knew that going for traditional treatment on his knee would provoke a possibility for setback.
“It was the decision taken between the player and the medical department to go through with the process and procedure, things worked well but unfortunately there was an incident in the last match and this time, he will go through surgery.”
Regarding Keanu Cupido, who left the Arrows match on a stretcher with a concussion, Cardoso provided a positive update, saying the injury wasn’t serious and the player would recover after only a few days.
“With Cupido, thanks God it wasn’t a big thing, he had a concussion but didn’t faint or vomit,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Thapelo Morena, Grant Kekana and Zuko Mdunyelwa might return to action after the international break.
“Morena, pretty quick, he’ll be back in the team, Grant and Zuko, after the break, they will be ready to play,” he added.
“We will take the advantage of this week and the next one to have them ready.”
