Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has explained why he passionately celebrated the 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United with the fans.
Nuno Santos and Brayan Leon Muniz scored in stoppage time to help the defending champions stay on top of the Betway Premiership table with 32 points.
The coach explained in the post-match press conference that he wanted to show the supporters they are all on the same side and that he also wanted to express the joy of winning because he’s also human.
“That’s exactly the same, telling the fans that we are always on the same side,” said Cardoso.
“That what we have written on our shirts is inside our hearts, the spirit of Ubuntu both inside our hearts. And what I want is to celebrate with them, make them understand that I’m just one of them and I’m here to help the club. But mostly also I want to be excited and today, the fans were fantastic. We felt such energy inside the stadium, such positive focus, that on that moment yes, I’m also a human being. I also have energy. I also have emotions.
“Of course, during the matches, I have to hold them as much as possible, but there’s a moment I need to live, and I just lived the pleasure that my players gave me by making the game up to the end the way we prepared, being loyal to it and believing on what we told them that most probably could happen if we would go on that line.
“I said and I repeat we just need to stay committed and together everybody that is part of the Masandawana family, and the name family comes exactly to highlight the spirit that we need to have. Family should stick together in all the moments. We started this season very well. Unfortunately, in the last game, we could not gather the points that we wanted, but we made a very good game.
‘We played very good football in the Champions League match, and we just need to keep the doors of Chloorkop closed, focused, everybody inside, so that we can fight about people that obviously from other clubs want to do into us. And if we can be together, strong, we will go through the difficult moments of the less strong moments and we will make much more very strong moments like today.
“So that was just my reaction.”
