Kaizer Chiefs have announced their opponents for this year’s Toyota Cup – the second instalment of their newly-founded pre-season game.
Last year, Amakhosi lost 4-0 to Young Africans in what was Nasreddine Nabi’s first proper game as head coach.
This year, the Glamour Boys will face Ghanaian record champions Asante Kotoko, the club announced on Thursday.
Asante Kotoko have won the Ghanaian Premier League 25 times, the last in 2021/22 and most recently won the Ghanaian FA Cup after beating Golden Kicks 2-1.
The game is Chiefs’ official curtain raiser for the 2025/26 season, which will also see Amakhosi to African football in the CAF Confederation Cup after they won the Nedbank Cup.
“This year we will be in Durban, our home away from home,” Jessica Motaung announced.
“I’m proud and privileged to announce that we will play Asante Kotoko from Ghana – a team that we played in the Vodacom Challenge many years ago. We’ve even had some players from them before.
“It’s a tournament that showcases African talent, African brands and celebrates African football.
“We’re excited to play Asante, because we’re two teams who are playing in the Confed Cup, hopefully we will not meet each other too soon.”
