Chiefs Assessing Portuguese-based Defender

Newly crowned Nedbank Cup champions Kaizer Chiefs are assessing former KZN Academy defender Mhleli Mabuza, who is a free agent after parting ways with Portuguese fourth-division outfit Louletano D.C.

The 24-year-old is a versatile defender who plays at right-back and can also convert as a winger and midfielder which has seen him recently been named as the best right-back in the Campeonato de Portugal.

He had an outstanding performance throughout this season where he produced nine assists in all competitions. He spent close to seven years in Portugal dazzling and growing in each and every season to be a better player. His great season with Louletano didn’t go unnoticed, as he attracted interest from different Premier Soccer League sides.

Information received by this publication is that Mabuza is currently being assessed by Chiefs as he trained with them for two days which is expected to carry on for the next few days.

His contract with Campeonato de Portugal has since expired and concluded last month and should Amakhosi decide to sign him, they will sign snap him up on a free transfer.

There are also three unnamed PSL sides who have showed interest in the versatile defender, as his signature seems to be in demand with age still very much on his side.
