Chippa United held Kaizer Chiefs to a goalless draw, as Nasreddine Nabi’s men are now five games without a win in the Betway Premiership.
The Tunisian mentor only made two changes from the side that beat Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup semi-final last week, with Zitha Kwinika getting a rare start at the back, while Tashreeq Morris started ahead of Glody Lilepo.
There weren’t many highlights in the first half, with both sides cancelling each other out without creating too many openings.
Chippa had a real chance to take a lead into the break but a shot from Craig Martin from outside the box just flew past the post in injury-time.
Both Nabi and Thabo September reacted with double substitutions at break, with Njabulo Blom and Lilepo replacing Dillon Solomons and Morris for Amakhosi, while Giovanni Philander and Bienvenu Eva Nga came on for Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Enock Sakala for the home side.
Chippa had another powerful shot from outside the box after 60 minutes, but Bruce Bvuma was able to parry it.
Overall, though, the quality in the match remained below average and neither side managed to trouble the opposition goalkeeper.
It ended in a goalless draw, which didn’t help either side much in terms of the log. Chiefs stayed ahead of Chippa with 31 points, but the Chilli Boys are just one point behind and have two games in hand.
