Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that goalkeeping coach, Ilyes Mzoughi will not be on the bench for today’s match against Mamelodi Sundowns after his mother, Hasna Mansour sadly passed away on Thursday.
Mzoughi has been a breath of fresh of air and has become an instant fan favourite after seen smiling and joking in many of the footage shared by the club.
Before joining Chiefs, he worked with a number of teams in Africa and the Middle East. He also worked as the goalkeeper coach for the Mauritanian national team. He has worked at Tunisian football Club Esperance de Tunis and also held Jobs in UAE, Saudi Arabia and Libya. Mzoughi teams up with Khalil Ben Youssef and Majdi Safi once again after working with them at Stade Tunisien during the 2019/20 season.
But he will miss Saturday’s match after returning to his home country to attend the funeral of his mother.
“It is with great sadness that Kaizer Chiefs received news of the tragic passing of goalkeeping coach, Ilyes Mzoughi’s mother, Hasna Mansour on Thursday, and immediately granted him a leave of absence on compassionate grounds to return to his homeland to attend to the bereavement,” the club stated.
“The thoughts and prayers of management, technical team, players and staff are with the Mzoughi family right now, as we wish them the strength to endure the grief of losing a beloved close relative.”
Executive Chairman, Dr. Kaizer Motaung expressed his compassion with Mzoughi: “I am really sorry to learn of the passing of Ilyes’ mother and on behalf of Kaizer Chiefs family I wish to extend my deep, sincere condolences to Ilyes and his family during this time of bereavement,” he told Chiefs’ website.
From everyone at iDiski Times, we would like to share our condolence with Mzoughi and his family, as well as everyone at Kaizer Chiefs.
