Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that Luke Baartman picked up an injury while being with the U23 national team and will be “closely monitored” ahead of Amakhosi’s clash with Stellenbosch FC next week Tuesday.

Chiefs have had a break of three weeks since their last game, and had only a few players away during the international break.

Fernanda Da Cruz has had a nearly complete squad to prepare for the next round of fixtures, starting with a home clash against former coach Gavin Hunt and Stellies at FNB Stadium.

However, the Frenchman might have to make due without Baart after he picked up an injury on international duty.

“Chiefs have welcomed back three players who were away on duty with the South African U23 national team, adding depth and energy to the squad,” the club stated on their website.

“The medical team is closely monitoring Luke Baartman after he picked up an injury, and updates on his progress, along with other sidelined players, will be shared ahead of the clash.”

There were no words on Lebohang Maboe who had to pull out of the Bafana Bafana squad due to injury.

Chiefs are currently in fourth place and still unbeaten in the league but picked up four draws in their last five matches before the international break.

Stellenbosch, meanwhile, are seventh with two wins three draws and two defeats in their first seven outings. The Cape Winelands-based side have won the last three direct duels with Amakhosi.
