Chiefs Give Zwane Update

Kaizer Chiefs communications manager Vina Maphosa has given an update on the injury of head coach Arthur Zwane after the ugly scenes at Royal Bafokeng Stadium, where fans hurled objects at the players and coach.

Zwane missed the post-match press conference due to picking up an injury, which was reported to be a result after being hit by an object, as per MTNFC.

Maphosa explained that although Zwane got injured, he wasn’t hit by an object but rather injured by a shield of the police, who tried to protect him as he made his way into the tunnel.

“I can confirm that the coach was injured after the game. He was hurt in the eye and received medical attention,” Maphosa said on Radio2000.

“He wasn’t hit by the objects thrown by the fans but was injured by the shield of the police who was trying to protect him.”

Maphosa went on to confirm that Zwane should recover in time to be back on the bench for the club’s final league game against Cape Town City on Saturday.

“The Coach is recovering well and should be on the bench against City in our last game,” he added.

“Even though he wasn’t hit by the objects, we have been able to identify three plain clothed supporters who threw the objects.”

Maphosa also sent a strong message towards the people who threw fans at the players and Zwane, saying the club’s strong condemns their actions.

“This behaviour anti-Kaizer Chiefs. We are all about love and peace at Kaizer Chiefs,” he explained.

“Our supporters obviously know that very well. Hence we don’t assume that the perpetrators are Chiefs supporters.

“We want to condemn the act of violence at the stadium and we’d like to also pass a strong message to our supporters or whoever used the opportunity to exhibit elements of violence at the stadium as you have seen at our home matches.

“We encourage all the children, women to come to the stadium and create a safe space for them.

“I think this type of actions they take us steps backwards. The club will take a stern action, if branches who were at the stadium will be able to identify the perpetrators. We condemn that and repeatedly so.”
