Kaizer Chiefs lost their third pre-season friendly in the Netherlands despite an improved performance on Saturday.
Just a day after their 4-0 defeat to FC Utrecht, Nasreddine Nabi opted for a different starting XI which didn’t include any new signings, selecting Brandon Petersen, Zitha Kwinika, Dillon Solomons, Inacio Miguel, Reeve Frosler, Samkelo Zwane, George Matlou, Gaston Sirino, Tashreeq Morris, Pule Mmodi and Mfundo Vilakazi.
Chiefs were pegged back early in the game by Nijmegen, with Petersen making a superb save after 12 minutes to keep the score level.
The home side had another good chance after 21 minutes but a shot from the edge of the box just missed the Amakhosi goal.
Nijmegen had another good chance in the 36th minute when a long-range shot nearly caught Petersen off his line but it just missed the target.
Nabi’s men finally had their own first chance a minute later, when Gaston Sirino was stopped by the goalkeeper from close range.
The two sides couldn’t be separated in the first half and it remained a tight game early in the second half. Chiefs had a decent chance from a free-kick after 56 minute but it got dflected over the bar by the wall.
Inacio Miguel then had a good chance after a corner, but his shot was saved and he was flagged offside anyway.
Nabi then again made a whole lot of changes, with Bruce Bvuma, Aden McCarthy, Nkanyiso Shinga, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Thabo Cele, Ethan Chislett, Ashley Du Preez, Glody Lilepo and Naledi Hlongwane entering the pitch.
Nijmegen eventually found the opener after 73 minutes when Bvuma was beaten by a well-placed shot via Koki Ogawa.
Chiefs had two late chances to find an equaliser but failed to beat the Nijmegen keeper, which sealed their third straight defeat.
