Chiefs & Pirates Charged By PSL DC

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have been charged for spectator misbehaviour by the Premier Soccer League DC, prosecutor Zola Majavu announced on Thursday.

Chiefs were charged and pleaded guilty of missile throwing in the recent Soweto Derby, while Pirates pleaded guilty for the same offence in their fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns.

As a consequence, Chiefs were charged R100.000 of which R50.000 were suspended on condition no other incident of spectator misbehaviour will take place in the next 12 months.

However, Amakhosi already had an existing suspended charge of R100.000 from previous spectator misbehaviour which has now been activated and need to pay R150.000 overall.

Meanwhile, Pirates were charged R100.000 for the new offence of missile throwing against Sundowns and pleaded guilty, leading to an immediate payment of R75.000, while R25.000 were suspended.

In addition, Pirates too, had an existing R50.000 suspended sentence from a previous incident which now became active due to their reoffence within 12 months. As a consequence, the Buccaneers need to pay R125.000 overall.

Both clubs will also share the costs of Thursday’s hearing and were ordered to publish these sanctions on their respective websites within seven days to show their fans that this type of behaviour is punishing the clubs and not the perpetrators themselves.
