Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Edson Castillo has earned a late national team call-up by Venezuela for their upcoming 2026 FIFA Cup qualifying campaign against Argentina and Paraguay.
Castillo had a slow start to the season after being a substitute in both matches against Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu FC and seemed to have impressed new coach Nasreddine Nabi after being handed a starting berth in their 2-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns last week.

Last season, the 30-year-old hard-tackling midfielder stood out as one of Amakhosi’s best players, but his performance dropped toward the end the last campaign as Chiefs finished in a disappointing 10th-place.
Castillo has earned himself nine caps with a single goal and will be hoping to turn his fortunes around at Naturena for a regular feature in the Venezuelan squad.
He missed the Copa America and the two FIFA World Cup qualifiers after his form dropped at Chiefs.
Castillo has now returned to the Venezuelan national team after receiving a late call-up due to one the players picking up an injury.
Venezuela will face Argentina and Paraguay in the CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup next week.
