Kaizer Chiefs trio Aden McCarthy, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Mfundo Vilakazi are just one booking away from missing out on this coming weekend’s Soweto Derby.
Amakhosi and Orlando Pirates will once again renew their rivalry with three points and bragging rights at stake for the biggest fixture on the local football calendar.
Before Chiefs take to the pitch against their fiercest nemesis, they have a league fixture to honour at the Calabash on Tuesday evening against Stellenbosch FC with revenge locked in the back of their minds after the Cape Winelands outfit dumped Amakhosi out of the Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cup competitions.
McCarthy only just returned from suspension though it was in the CAF Confederation Cup, missing Chiefs’ final Group D clash away defeat to Zamalek after accumulating multiple cautions.
The 22-year-old has slotted in nicely and made the left-back position his since Rushwin Dortley suffered a long-term injury.
‘Obrigado’ on the other hand picked up his third yellow caution of the campaign in their 0-0 stalemate against Siwelele FC at FNB Stadium in October 2025.
Midfield enforcer Mthethwa was booked his third yellow in the 1-1 draw against AmaZulu at the beginning of October last year. He underwent surgery in December 2025 after a knee sprain and looks set to be in contention for their upcoming matches.
With Chiefs’ technical team having one eye on the weekend’s spectacle, it remains to be seen if any of the three players will play part in the Stellies match.
