Chippa United chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi has opened up on goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali’s future at the club, saying they are talking to a few clubs abroad and will not hold him back should a good offer arrive.
There have been reports of interest in the keeper from clubs in Europe following his showing with Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
Nwabali played in all of Nigeria’s seven matches at the tournament, keeping four clean sheets helping them to second place finish.
‘Bobo’ as Nwabali is affectionately known has also continued his good form with the Chilli Boys, helping them get to the semi-finals of this season’s Nedbank Cup and has also been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.
His chairman Mpengesi spoke to iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in the latest edition of the newspaper, where he gave the latest update on the player.
“We are talking to a few clubs abroad,” Mpengesi told iDiski Times.
“We also believe that he needs something better, especially after the performance that he showed at the AFCON. You know, being number two, they were runner-ups, he was number two, second best goalkeeper of AFCON.
“So if the opportunity comes especially abroad, of course even if it comes locally and the offer is for him, it’s not even for us. If the offer for him is better then we are not going to hold on to him.”
