Chippa United chairman Chippa Mpengesi has once again pulled the trigger and made the fourth head coach change this season.
Mpengesi has brought Kurt Lentjies back earlier this year, initially to assist Morgan Mammila before the latter was let go on 27 February after a 2-1 defeat for Swallows.
Mammila himself had replaced Daine Klate after just seven games into the 2022/23 campaign and won his first four matches in charge.
But reality soon kicked in, with Mammila facing a similar fate to Klate. Now, after just five matches in charge, Lentjies, who saved Chippa from relegation last season after replacing Gavin Hunt, has now also been demoted to the DStv Diski Challenge team, as first reported by SABC Sport and confirmed by iDiski Times sources.
From the four DStv Premiership matches, Lentjies only picked up two points and they have fallen into 14th place on the log, just two points ahead of bottom-placed Maritzburg United, who are level with Marumo Gallants.
Even the 2-0 win over Mpheni Home Defenders in the Nedbank Cup couldn’t save Lentjies’ job after he failed to win any of the three DStv Premiership games that followed, drawing 1-1 with Sekhukhune United and SuperSport United before losing 2-0 to Orlando Pirates this weekend.
This publication understands former assistant Siyabulela Gwambi will lead the team in the coming fixture against Marumo Gallants, which is a must-win for both sides in the relegation race, while Lentjies and goalkeeper coach Mtunzi Ngcingane have been demoted to the DDC.
