Chivaviro – How I Dealt With Chiefs Boo Boys

Kaizer Chiefs striker Ranga Chivaviro says he had to be mature with how he handled criticism from the club’s fan base this past season.

The 31-year-old arrived at Naturena at the start of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season with a lot expected from him based on his goalscoring exploits at his former club Marumo Gallants. Chivaviro scored 17 goals in all competitions at Gallants, with 10 of those coming in the league while also starring in the CAF Confederation Cup which Gallants exited at the penultimate stage.

In his debut season at Chiefs, he managed just four goals with a single assist in 23 outings across all competitions, which saw his side endure their worst-ever topflight finish in the club’s history (10th).

Amakhosi fans’ dissatisfaction was well documented the previous campaign, and Chivaviro told iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in edition 158 that he understands where the fans are coming from and takes their criticism positively.

“As a professional, you try to stay calm,” Chivaviro told IDiski Times.

“The expectations are high. Chiefs are not a small team. It’s a very big institution.

“I understand that it is coming from a place of wanting to win from the fans, and I take that positively and I hope as we go forward, I get to live up to my expectations or even surpass them.”
