We are less than an hour away from the kick-off of the 2022/2023 DStv Premiership season, and Cape Town City and Mamelodi Sundowns have named their starting line-ups for the season opener.
The two clubs meet at 19h30 at the DHL Stadium (Cape Town Stadium), and it should be an interesting encounter between the sides who finished top and second in the league last season.
There is a familiar feel to both selections, as Sundowns and City have been quieter in the market than most other clubs, but there will be first starts for Marc Van Heerden and Luke Daniels for Eric Tinkler’s team.
Last season it was a stalemate in their league fixtures, as both games between the clubs ended in goalless draws. Their head-to-head history in the league is very tight, with City just edging it, with five wins to the four from Sundowns, while there have been three draws.
Here’s how the two teams line up tonight:
Cape Town City XI: Marques, Martin, Mokeke, Cupido, Van Heerden, Ambina, Nodada, Msantsane, Gonzalez, Mayo, Daniels
Mamelodi Sundowns XI: Williams, Modiba, Muda,B. Onyango, Lebusa, Mokoena, Domingo, Maema, Zwane, Kutumela, Shalulile
