Nabi On What’s Halting Chiefs’ Progress After Promising Start

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has identified injuries, media criticism as well as the inconsistency from the youngsters as the three main key factors currently hindering the team’s progress.

Amakhosi had a promising start to the 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign picking up a few vital wins but have since been on decline managing just three wins in nine matches across all competitions since the start of October.

Their 1-0 win over Chippa United was also their first league clean sheet of the season, and the Tunisian mentor attributed their struggles to injuries, youngsters not being consistent in their play as well as pressure from the media.

“I feel that at the beginning of the league, the quality was better than, let’s say, the last two or three games,” Nabi told the media.

“But this has an explanation. There are factors. The first one is when you play a lot of young players, the inconsistency of the performance is normal.

“Then the second thing is we have been having a lot of injuries that have been impacting our performance on the field and as well impacting the results, which brought so much pressure on the team, on the coach from outside,” Nabi added, referring to key players like Gaston Sirino, Edson Castillo, Teboho Potsane, Dillan Solomons and Bradley Cross all nursing injuries.

“And then all that pressure impacts our players as well, which sometimes, that’s what we said before, they play with the handbrake and with the fear to not lose. Not the fear to score more, but the fear to not lose.

“And we believe that after this game, three points we can build from this. But we are going to overcome all that because we really believe in our project,” Nabi further added.
