Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz has highlighted the key difference between his side and Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of their Betway Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 15 August.
Da Cruz says Sundowns have the advantage of a settled squad, with many of their players having spent considerable time playing together, while their coach has also been in the role for some time.
Chiefs, on the other hand, are still in the process of building their team. The French coach admits he is still implementing his game model, with his players continuing to learn and adapt to his ideas.
“The difference that’s there between Chiefs and Sundowns is that players at Sundowns have played together for the long time,” said Da Cruz.
“Also their coach has been there for the long time. Meanwhile, I have just arrived and I’m applying my game model on the field.
“Yes, the players are understanding very well but we need time. So, it will be two different styles of football. But don’t worry, the team will be ready.”
‘Possession is key’
Da Cruz also highlighted his side’s positive possession numbers in their last three matches, but warned that the situation could be different when they come up against Sundowns on Saturday.
“Since the beginning of the season, I’ve been very happy with our ball possession,” he added.
“We have had more of the ball than our opponents. But maybe on Saturday it will be different but sometimes we also need to keep the ball during this game.”
