Marumo Gallants head coach Dan Malesela admits that he tried to get intel on Kaizer Chiefs mentor Nasreddine Nabi’s style of play leading up to the two sides’ clash in the Betway Premiership opener.
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa welcome Amakhosi to the Toyota Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Saturday, September 14, in what promises to be a titanic clash, with ‘Dance’ hoping for an upset with the return of Gallants to topflight football.
Speaking to the media at the Betway Premiership launch at the Galleria on Tuesday afternoon, Malesela emphasized on preparing his troops rather than worrying what Chiefs will be planning on their side.
“It’s a blessing in disguise that we’re playing Kaizer Chiefs first, that every supporter will want to be at the stadium,” Malesela said.
“So, I think it’s a beautiful launch of our team that we play Kaizer Chiefs, and I hope that we win on the day so that Bloemfontein can just buzz on the weekend.”
When asked if he has done his homework on his opponents, ‘Dance’ jokingly replied: “For Kaizer Chiefs? I know, I’ve seen (laughs). No, I’m kidding.
“Look, we tried to look at how other teams that he [coach Nabi] was coaching were playing and all of that.
“But you can’t read too much when there’s a change of personnel. You can’t read too much into what the other team has been doing because you need this one.
“Even on the day of the game. Even if you have seen, things tend to change sometimes.
“So, we’ll just take it with what we want to dish out and work out from there,” he added.
