Durban City coach Pitso Dladla has praised Siphamandla Ncanana and Mfanafuthi Mkhize, insisting the duo are on par with Bafana Bafana’s centre-backs.
After the match, Dladla addressed Mkhize’s injury absence, commending both him and captain Ncanana for their quality.
He added that Mkhize is likely to make a return in the near future after being limited to the stands.
“Yes, look, I think two things, Mfanafuthi Mkhize is a quality player, one of the best centre-backs in the country together with Ncanana,” said Dladla.
“I think, I’m just saying this, I think they are equally good as those who are in the national team. But we will get the full medical report tomorrow. I don’t think he’s going to be out for the long period.
“But at the same time, our team has got quality players, quality, quality players. You look at Fezile Gcaba, he tried, he played there. It’s all about basic, it’s all about understanding what you need to do in your area of operation. He tried that.
“You look at Liam De Kock, he also played well as a centre-back. What it says to us as a technical team is we need to trust each and every player that is there. And like I’m saying, again, we’ve got a very, very quality team.”
