Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo believes there is no debate around Miguel Cardoso being the frontrunner for the Coach of the Season award.
The Portuguese took over Sundowns from Manqoba Mngqithi in December and guided them to their eighth successive league title with a game to spare.
Despite the 2024/25 campaign having two games less, due Royal AM’s situation, Sundowns broke several records along the way and became the first ever side to win all their home games.
Out of 21 games in charge, Sundowns won 18, drew one and lost just two, scoring 49 goals and conceding only 10.
There have been claims that Jose Riveiro deserves a shout for the Coach of the Season after guiding Orlando Pirates to another second-place finish, while closing the gap to Masandawana, but Khumalo was clear in his selection.
“Cardoso,” he replied when asked about his Coach of the Season on SoccerZone.
“Cardoso because he lifted the trophy and also led Sundowns to the final of the Champions League.”
The latter achievement, though, has no bearing on the Coach of the Season award, as the performance in the Betway Premiership is the criteria for the award.
