Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo has picked Lucas Ribeiro Costa as his Player of the Season, while giving mention to two Orlando Pirates players.
The 2024/25 PSL Awards have been postponed due to Mamelodi Sundowns’ participation in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Despite a date for the awards yet to be confirmed by the Premier Soccer League, Khumalo discussed his favourites – and while he was clear on his winner in Ribeiro, he also highlighted the contributions of Relebohile Mofokeng and Makhehlene Makhaula.
“Also, I’d go for Ribeiro,” he said on the 10Bet Podcast.
“My second-best would-be Mofokeng that I might say, as young as he was. He might have lost a little bit of a touch in some of the games, but the boy did well.
“And also, let’s look at him at Bafana, he was unbelievable. When the team needed him, he answered. The goals, he scored, he played in crucial games, and I think at Pirates he was unbelievable.
“Those are the two players on my side.
“Also, Makhaula, he’s one of the players – I rate him very high. He might have gone unnoticed by a lot, but if talk football, and if you do understand the game, Makhaula deserves it. Well done to him.”
