The last-minute departure of Vusumuzi Vilakazi from Chippa United has created chaos in the club’s DStv Diski Challenge and senior teams, leaving their DDC side without a coach ahead of their clash with Moroka Swallows.
Vilakazi joined Chilli Boys two months ago after resigning at Lamontville Golden Arrows.
‘Kanu’ was initially introduced by the club as Technical Director but in fact he was more of an assistant coach to head coach Morgan Mammila.
However, 48 hours after the 2-1 midweek defeat to Cape Town City at DHL Stadium, Vilakazi resigned, which left United with a lot to think about ahead of their weekend clash against Stellenbosch FC.
A reliable source has informed this publication that there will be changes in the Chilli Boys technical teams.
Walter Zungu, who has been serving as the DDC head coach, had to cancel his trip to Johannesburg, where the DDC team were going to face Swallows DDC on Saturday morning.
According to the source, Zungu was instructed on Thursday morning to join up with the first team, as he was ready to leave to Joburg. Mammila will remain as the head coach and Zungu will be assistant coach.
This left the Chilli Boys’ DDC technical team with only Mthunzi Ngcingane, who is the assistant and goalkeeper coach, and it is yet to be confirmed who will take charge of the DDC team Saturday morning.
Further info coming from the source is that Kurt Lenjties, who is currently with Chippa United feeder team Peacemakers in the ABC Motsepe League, might make a return to the club as the DDC head coach, with Zungu to remain with the senior team.
The other name that emerged is the one of Siyabulela Gwambi, who previously worked as the club assistant coach for more than five years. The club is expected to hold a meeting after their clash against Stellies to sort out the technical team changes.
