Kaizer Chiefs striker Wandile Duba has revealed what he told the club’s new signings Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman upon their arrival.
Both players recently joined Amakhosi as free agents in August 2025. This followed the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) declaring them free after their former club, Cape Town Spurs, was relegated to the ABC Motsepe League.
The two players have not yet made their club debuts with Spurs said to have appealed the verdict that declared them free agents.
While welcoming them to the Phefeni Glamour Boys, Duba says he warned Velebayi and Baartman about the pressure that comes with serving a big club like Chiefs.
He mentioned that he advised them to remain calm and give maximum effort to stay at the top of their game.
“I told them that there is so much pressure when you’re playing for this team,” said Duba.
“There’s so much pressure; they must just relax and play football. They are part of a big club.
“So, they must just be always be on top of their game.”
Meanwhile, Chiefs have had an impressive start to the 2025/26 campaign, winning four and drawing one of their first five league matches.
They are currently second in the league standings with 13 points. Their next match is against the log leaders, Sekhukhune United, on September 16 at FNB Stadium.
