Explained: Why MaMkhize Clashed With AmaZulu Security Guards

Royal AM president Shawn ‘Ma’ Mkhize and some of her team members clashed with AmaZulu security guards in a scuffle that took place between the two clubs in the KwaZulu-Natal Derby at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night.

The scuffle broke out after the match when Mkhize was denied by AmaZulu security guards to use a certain entrance after the match ended 1-1 at the World Cup venue, leading things to get out of hand.

Tensions already started to build up when Mkhize and her entourage opted against parking cars inside the stadium, and left it instead at the swimming pool across the venue, entering the stadium with her team through the turnstiles.

Mkhize and her team also usually get their own section in the stands from where they cheer on their team, but AmaZulu apparently only offered them space inside a suite.

“Mkhize walked with her team from the swimming pool to the turnstiles to enter the venue because they were denied enough VIP tickets,” the source said.

“In the morning of the game, they gave us the VIP suite on the fifth floor and we said ‘Hawu! You guys are throwing us away?’

“The main person who is at fault here is [AmaZulu CEO] Sne Zungu, who is writing stuff on Instagram. Andile Mpisane was even looking for Sne Zungu because he was furious. We all have accreditations, how are we not allowed to pass from the securities after the game?”

The club is now waiting whether match commissioner, Morne Daniels, included the scuffle in his match report to press charges for either clubs.

“If this is not included in the match report, then all hell will break loose,” added the source.

“We know we can fight because soon enough they will come to our venue [next season as both have played each other twice in the league]. This is going to get ugly.

“It is funny that the video [leaked on social media] is showing one side [Mkhize’s security people fighting] and why are they not showing the other side?”

When contacted for comment, AmaZulu media officer, Brilliant Mkhathini questioned the behaviour of Royal AM’s representatives on the day.

“It’s total strange for people to name drop like that to justify their disregard for PSL rules,” he said.

“The competitions area is sacred and is only accessible to accredited personnel. Our security were mainly confirming accreditation but were stopped by the opposition team’s top officials who are even heard on some videos proudly taking ownership of the commotion.

“Their accreditation was produced way after the unnecessary scenes had escalated. It’s very odd that in all of this-you’re telling me our official instructed security to stop people from certain points when it is the league’s rules that warrant checking of accreditation.

“Are you telling me all this our CEO is accountable? What about pre-planning where the assigned match commissioner presides over? Is this not the norm at PSL games, that operational areas aren’t for general hospitality ticket holders? This wasn’t the case on Saturday, even some celebrities and guests wanted to access the competitions area pre & post the match.”
