SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt was left furious by the officiating after his side’s 1-1 DStv Premiership draw with Polokwane City, at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The result saw United miss out on moving into first spot on the log, as they remained in second position with 23 points from 11 matches – one behind Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played three games less.
Matsatsantsa scored first through Etiosa Ighodaro in the 77th minute but that was cancelled out by Thabang Matuludi four minutes to time.
However, the former league champions had a penalty call dismissed by referee Tshidiso Mkhwanazi and a late goal, which was potentially the match winner, was flagged offside, leaving Hunt furious after the match.
“The first half and the second half and the goal we scored and the penalty…doesn’t mean we should have won the game but it’s a disgrace,” said Hunt.
“What’s going on here? It’s actually embarrassing what went on here. But anyway, I’m proud of the players. What can you do?
“It’s unbelievable. The penalty? Besides all that we got to blame ourselves a little bit because we missed chances but it wasn’t a free-kick for their goal. So anyway it’s an overall thing tonight, the way it was handled [by the referee].”
SuperSport came close to overtaking Masandawana on the log, but dropped two points in the end, with Hunt insisting they are just taking it one game at a time.
“We are not worried about that [missing out on first position], we got a small squad we just do the best we can,” he added.
“It’s all we can do, take one game at a time, but it is what it is.”
SuperSport have another chance to climb to the top of the log when they return to action on Sunday against Sekhukhune United at 17:45.
