TS Galaxy head coach Adnan Beganovic was left shocked by Mamelodi Sundowns’ tight schedule which saw them having only two days to prepare for the CAF Champions League quarterfinal clash against Stade Malien.
There has been lots of talks about the Sundowns schedule from Miguel Cardoso. The Portuguese mentor mentioned that they asked for postponement for the Orbit College game but were refused.
Beganovic was left shocked also stating that teams from outside the country are always given a week at least to prepare for the games.
The Bosnian mentor also predicted Sundowns to win their ninth consecutive league title as he highlighted the quality they have in their team.
“If I look at two teams, we can talk about two teams fighting for the league,” he said to the media.
“In my opinion, Orlando Pirates is pushing well, playing to their strength with the young boys; they have that special feeling, maybe they can be the best team in South Africa to win the league.
“But I think, obviously, quality is on Sundowns’ side, and also, I think how Sundowns play.
“However, we need to be honest, Sundowns haven’t had a break in the last two months, playing every three days – I never saw that in my life. They play Champions League on Wednesday, league on Saturday or Sunday, and then again on Wednesday.
“Also, Coach Cardoso is saying teams in Europe and Africa, like Al Ahly, have nine or ten days to rest and prepare for the Champions League, but we push Sundowns to play every three days.
“I think Sundowns deserves more. As a coach, when I watch, Sundowns have more quality, that’s why I think Sundowns can win this league because they deserve it and they have more quality than Orlando Pirates.”
