Gallants Coach – Opens Up On Struggles At Vita

Marumo Gallants head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has dropped a bombshell on how he bought playing equipment during his time at AS Vita Club and heaped praise on the professionalism of the South African league.

Ouaddou was in Mzansi late last year with the DRC giants for their CAF Confederation Cup playoffs against Stellenbosch FC and faced many hiccups as they arrived on the day of the match with some players also left behind due to lack of travel documents.

The former Moroccan international shockingly resigned after the game during the presser and admitted that he could no longer work under such circumstances as a head coach before taking up the Gallants job after the sacking of Dan Malesela.

The 46-year-old explained what really attracted him to South Africa and why he believes that this is the environment to develop a player.

“The clubs are very professional, the environment is very important, we have to think to improve the African football also to help the countries to win the FIFA World Cup in few years to come, we must have a professional environment around the player,” Ouaddou told the media.

“What I have seen in the other countries they have 20 players, sometimes 30, sometimes 40 but there’s no infrastructure and players are struggling to get salaries.

“I can tell you at AS Vita Club I was buying the kit, I was buying the balls as a coach, so you can imagine how the players cope.

“Sometimes for me we have to put the right environment around the player, around the young players as well in terms of development because Africa has very talented players, very huge potential all over the continent but we have to think about the environment.”
